Inquiry into Energy
Policy and Planning in Wales
EPP 256 – John Williams
I wish to express my concerns for the
continued building of wind farms across Mid-Wales. What has
not been given proper consideration is the damage to the unique
unspoilt rural character of the area.
My immediate neighbour at Tanygraig, Meifod has established a small
Bed and Breakfast business which has a 4 star Wales Tourist Board
listing. Some of the customers are walkers following the
Glyndwr trail and last year I happened to speak to a Dutch couple
who had enjoyed the rural walking scenery but the proximity of the
trail to wind turbines had reduced their experience. As a result
they did not wish to repeat the experience and they stated that now
wind turbines in Holland were being removed.
There is already a blight following a possible National Grid pylon
route through the Meifod valley and no possible compensation to
householders for the unexpected property devaluation which is very
wrong
The vast majority of local residents with whom I have spoken are
against these Wind farm and infrastructure developments to the
detriment of the traditional lifestyle values of the area.
Totally opposed to this flawed energy policy.
